Basic info about SE Asia
Southeast Asia consists of the following nations: Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philipines, Myanmar, Brunei, and Singapore( Correct me if i miss on some countries). SE Asians look a little different than East Asians. Thruought history, this region was ruled by foreign powers such as G. Britain, France, and even China. Their influences are seen throught the region. For example, in Vietnam was under Chinese, French, and then the U.S. influences. As a result, their culture absorbed some things from each of those 3 countries. the Vietnamese alphabet used to look similar to Chinese but then the French introduced the Roman alphabet. You can see the influences in their common practices, the food, and generally the way people act. the old generation was influenced by the French so they act different than the new generation which is influenced by pop culture.
That's it for now...

Re: Basic info about SE Asia
I knew that Vietnam was under French influence and that they got the Roman alphabet from them, but I didn't know that they use Chinese characters as well... And as far as U.S. influence goes, that goes without saying... The Vietnam war, just from there you should realize that U.S. had some kind of influence on Vietnam...
You should post more It's interesting

Hey Victoria, you forgot what I said about Vietnam (Asians and Asians)!!
"Concerning Vietnamese, they also used to use Chinese characters, but during the French colonisation, a priest invented the Vietnamese alphabets and replaced the Chinese characters by these alphabets. Vietnamese language also have a lots of Chinese words. But it is not true that a Vietnamese person can learn French easily, because even if they use alphabets (which is different from the French alphabets; because Vietnamese have a lots of accents that do not exist in the French alphabets), the Vietnamese alphabets only phonetically express the Vietnamese language which is, as you might have guess very different from the French language (although there are, I think, many French words in the Vietnamese language)."

You're right Joe, Vietnamese language is phonetic which means it uses accents and each of them has it's own tone. Yeah, some French words are being used by the Vietnamese but they've been localized so they don't sound like the French who speak it at all.
